Science Week in P6/7

15th Mar 2024
The Primary 6 and 7 children had a wonderful time celebrating Science Week 2024 in school this week.

We kicked off the fun with a special assembly held by Mrs Mackle where she demonstrated many different experiments and encouraged us to think about the different careers we could aspire to do as scientists.

In class, we created fireworks in a cup and explored the scientific theory behind water and oil and why they don't mix. We also created model lungs using balloons, cups and straws. The children explored how breathing works and how the role of our diaphragm muscle is the most important in filling our lungs with air. We also created our own volcanoes by mixing water, dish soap, baking soda and vinegar. We observed the chemical reaction created and discussed the reasons why this happens.
