P6/P7 Eco Diversity project in Magery meadow

2nd Jun 2025

On a recent outdoor learning adventure, our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils took part in an important environmental project at Maghery Meadow. The focus of the day was learning about invasive species—specifically the fast-spreading Himalayan Balsam—and taking real action to help protect local biodiversity.

Guided by environmental experts from ABC council, the children discovered how invasive plants like Himalayan Balsam can outcompete native species, disrupt ecosystems, and affect local wildlife. With gloves on and sleeves rolled up, our pupils worked together to carefully remove the plant from a section of the meadow.

This hands-on experience not only deepened their understanding of ecology and conservation but also gave them a sense of pride in making a positive difference to their local environment.

We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork, and care for nature. A big thank you to the staff and volunteers who supported the activity and helped make it such a meaningful learning experience.

Well done, P6 and P7 – true eco-heroes in action!
