P4/5 Digestive System Investigation

30th Sep 2021

This afternoon we investigated how our food is digested. We used a plastic bag to represent the stomach and tights to represent the small and large intestine.

After the food was chewed (cut using scissors) and entered the stomach (plastic sandwich bag), the stomach acid broke it down (pink juice and squeezing by hand).

Next it entered the esophagus (tights) and was pushed through the small and large intestines. The nutrients needed, went into the body (liquid into the bin) and what was left came out (a hole at the bottom of the tights).

The children thoroughly enjoyed their investigation and have asked if they can repeat it at home. Good luck!
