A Home for Nature – Maghery

23rd Mar 2026

Our P7 pupils took part in the Eco‑UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards with their project “A Home for Nature.” After learning from council biodiversity officers about the decline of bees and butterflies, the class worked with Maghery Country Park to help create better habitats for wildlife.

The pupils arranged for two areas of the park to be left unmowed, designed educational signs for visitors, helped remove the invasive Himalayan Balsam plant, and carried out flower and insect surveys to monitor biodiversity. A highlight of the project was discovering the Orange‑Tipped Butterfly and learning how important native plants like the Cuckoo Flower are for its survival.

As “The Nature Warriors,” our P7 class is proud to support and protect nature in our local community.
