🏰🥔 P3, P4 & P5 Trip to the Tayto Factory 🥔🏰

2nd Apr 2026

Yesterday, P3, P4 and P5 had the exciting opportunity to finish our topic “Food, Glorious Food” with a fantastic trip to the Tayto Factory, where we learned how crisps are made and packaged.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Mr Tayto himself, who wished us well on our tour! Before entering the factory, we got ready by putting on our hair nets and aprons and washing our hands. Our tour began in the potato warehouse, which was very cold and dark to keep the potatoes in perfect condition for making delicious crisps. We then watched as the potatoes were tipped into a large container to be washed, peeled and sorted. A factory worker carefully removed any unsuitable potatoes before the rest were sliced into very thin pieces, ready for cooking.

Once the crisps were cooked, we were lucky enough to taste them fresh from the fryers, with no flavour added — and they were delicious! Next, we watched a huge spinning drum tumble the crisps while lots of flavour was added, and we enjoyed tasting these too. We then visited the packing room, where the crisps were placed into packets, boxed up and prepared for delivery to the shops.

Our tour guide also told us about the other companies and products Tayto produces, allowing us to taste some popcorn and see different brands being packaged. We even got to see how Tayto’s funky shaped crisps are made! Back in reception, we carried out our final taste test to decide our favourite crisps, before being gifted a six‑pack of crisps to take home and share.

The Tayto Castle was amazing, and the whole experience was lots of fun. A big thank you to the fantastic tour guides who taught us so much and let us see — and taste — so much along the way!
