🎨 🌊 Exploring Viking Life Through Tapestries πŸ›ΆπŸ§΅

2nd Jun 2026

As part of our World Around Us topic on the Vikings, we have been bringing our learning to life through our work in The Arts by exploring Viking tapestries.

We began by looking closely at a range of tapestry examples, discovering how they were often used to tell stories from the past. We explored how tapestries were made and identified some of the key features, such as detailed patterns, repeated designs, and storytelling through images. We especially enjoyed examining each tapestry and trying to uncover as much information as we could from what we saw!

Inspired by what we had learned, we then set about designing our own Viking tapestries. The children included a range of traditional Viking elements in their work, such as longboats, horses, Vikings, the sea, longhouses, monasteries, and common Viking patterns.

We are so proud of the creativity and imagination shown in these designs, as well as how the children used their knowledge of the Vikings to create their own unique storytelling tapestries!
